The Taichung Harbor Police Brigade was established with only 13 officers at the initial construction stage of the Port in 1973.

The Taichung Harbor Police Station was established with 75 officers and civil servants when the port was opened for business in 1976.

The total personnel of the Station was expanded to 150 members in July 1980.

After the Martial Law was lifted in 1987, the personnel and duty of the Taichung Harbor Inspection Section was incorporated into the Station with a total of 303 personnel.

A deputy director position was added up in February 1990.

Secretariat, Economic Affairs, and Logistics Sections were set up into the Station with a total of 315 personnel in 1994.

The fire brigade was separated from the Station and 22 of its police firefighters were transferred to the brigade in November 1998. The Station remained a total of 293 personnel.

The Station was renamed as Taichung Harbor Police Office according to the revised Harbor Polic Office Organization Code in December 2001.

41 personnel was decreased according to the government's downsizing program beginning in January 2003. The Office has remained a total of 252 personnel since then.

The 9 personel of Foreign Affair section wrer tranferred to National Immirgation Agency,Ministry of Interier, And South Pier Police Station was established in 2007. 25 personel were increased . The station remained total of 268 personel.

On January 1, 2014, with the organization transformation of Executive Yuan, restructuring of "Taichung Harbor Police Department, National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior ", the original 20 internal units (5 section, one center, 2 police Brigade and 7 police station), cut down and merge of economy section. Now the formulation consists of 19 internal units (5 sections - Logistics Section ).

On January 1, 2014, with the organization transformation of Executive Yuan, restructuring of "Taichung Harbor Police Department, National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior ", the original 20 internal units (5 section, one center, 2 police Brigade and 7 police station), cut down and merge of economy section. Now the formulation consists of 19 internal units (5 sections - Administrative Section, Logistics Section, Public Security Section, Internal Affairs ＆ Training Section, 3 office –Secretariat, Personnel Office, Accounting ＆ Statistics Office; 1 center - Command and Control Center; 3 police Brigade -Criminal Investigation Police Brigade, Security ＆ Patrol Police Brigade; 7 police unit -Central Pier Police Unit, North Pier Police Unit, Southern Pier Police Unit, Beiti Police Unit, Fishery Harbor Police Unit, Binhai Police Unit, West Terminal Police Unit).
