With the Lunar New Year approaching, the Taichung Harbor Police Department (TCHPD) partnered with Mitsui Outlet Park Taichung Port to conduct a full-scale anti-robbery drill on the morning of Feb. 11. As cash withdrawals and financial transactions surge during the holiday season, the exercise utilized realistic simulations to bolster frontline reporting and emergency response. By strengthening the local security network, authorities aim to ensure a safe environment for citizens to shop and travel during the festivities.
The exercise simulated a high-pressure scenario where a citizen withdrawing cash from a mall ATM was suddenly confronted by a knife-wielding suspect. The drill covered a full range of operational procedures, including immediate reporting by mall security, orderly evacuations, rapid police deployment, and the final encirclement and apprehension of the assailant. Conducted in a "real-combat" mode, the drill was marked by its realism and seamless coordination, showcasing the TCHPD’s rigorous training and operational efficiency. The exercise not only strengthened the mall’s emergency protocols but also successfully achieved the dual goals of crime deterrence and tactical readiness.
TCHPD stated that the on-site drill was designed to bolster the mall’s initial reporting and emergency response during a crisis. The exercise also served to sharpen the police force's rapid deployment and tactical encirclement maneuvers upon receiving an alert. By streamlining these procedures, authorities aim to ensure that any contingency can be resolved swiftly, thereby safeguarding public safety and property.
Moving forward, the TCHPD remains committed to its three core pillars: "Stable Security, Smooth Traffic, and Public Peace of Mind." With traffic management and crime prevention as its top priorities, the department aims to provide immediate assistance and ensure a safe, festive environment for all. The ultimate goal is to safeguard port operators, employees, and visitors alike, ensuring a secure and harmonious Lunar New Year.
